What to do in Seville in octubre

Three Kings parade on January 5 in the afternoon — 30+ floats start at Prado de San Sebastián and roll down Avenida de la Constitución to Plaza Nueva.

Cádiz Carnival February 12-22, an hour and three quarters by train — chirigotas, comparsas and cuartetos take over Pópulo and Plaza San Antonio for ten days of satirical street song.

Bitter-orange blossom (azahar) takes over the city — the patios of Santa Cruz and Casa de Pilatos saturated with scent for the last two weeks of March.

Holy Week through April 5 — La Madrugá on the night of April 2-3, La Macarena leaving San Gil at midnight and El Gran Poder out of San Lorenzo at 1:30 am.

Cruces de Mayo May 1-5 — flower-decked crosses fill courtyards and squares of the Centro with sevillana choirs and chilled manzanilla into the small hours.

Velá de Santiago y Santa Ana July 21-25 — Calle Betis, Altozano and Paseo de la O lit up for Triana's oldest neighborhood feast.

Deadest month of the year — locals decamp to Cádiz, Huelva and Tarifa beaches while Seville sits at 38°C and half the neighborhood bars stay shuttered.

XXIV Bienal de Flamenco September 9 to October 3 — 72 performances, 22 world premieres and 11 venues, from Teatro Lope de Vega to the Real Alcázar and the Maestranza bullring.

23rd Seville European Film Festival November 6-14 — screenings at Lope de Vega, Cervantes and Avenida 5 Cines with European auteurs in attendance.
