What to do in Bruges in octubre

January is one of the two deadest months here — you'll wander Rozenhoedkaai with no queues and no tour groups, impossible in summer.

The first weekend of February the Bruges Beer Festival gathers 80-plus Belgian breweries at the Beurshalle — two days of tasting, no pretension.

March is still low season — hotel prices haven't climbed and you can do the canals in peace before the Easter crowds arrive.

Easter (April 5 in 2026) packs the Markt with visitors — book ahead if you're coming over the holiday.

On Ascension Day (May 14 in 2026) the Procession of the Holy Blood — UNESCO Intangible Heritage running since 1304 — carries the relic through the city with thousands of costumed participants.

June has the longest days of the year — with light until nearly 10 pm you can walk the canals long after the museums close.

Mid-July the Cactusfestival sets up in Minnewaterpark — indie and roots music by the 'Lake of Love,' going since 1982.

The Zandfeesten turn 't Zand into one of Europe's largest antiques-and-brocante markets on several summer Sundays.

September brings the calm back — the summer groups leave and midweek you reclaim the canals in still-soft light.

Early November is one of the quietest spells — grey and damp, but the canals are yours before the markets arrive.

The Wintermarkt fills the Markt with chalets and an ice rink under the Belfry — the Christmas-card scene that draws many to Bruges in December.
